SA journos offered Ruth First fellowship
For 2010, the committee welcomes proposals that address any of the issues to be found in her own work or that follow in her spirit of ‘intellectually rigorous and politically engaged' research and writing on any topic that is relevant to the social and political life of the country today.
Paper published, delivered
The committee, consisting of Jacklyn Cock, Anton Harber, Shireen Hassim, Liza Key and Indra de Lanerolle, will award one or two fellowships, which offer the opportunity for fellows to devote time to devote time to in-depth research. Fellows produce a publishable paper and deliver the annual Ruth First memorial lecture, which takes place around 17 August, the anniversary of her murder.
The fellowships and lecture are organised under the auspices of University of the Witwatersrand's journalism programme, in conjunction with the Ruth First Trust in London and the African Studies Journal.
