SABC responds to Sunday Times

The SABC yesterday, Monday, 23 March 2009, issued a statement in response to theSunday Times front page story on Sunday 22 March, saying that the report mentioned in the newspaper was only preliminary, regretting the 'splashing' of names and calling the leakage irresponsible.

The statement reads as follows:

SABC responds to Sunday Times
The SABC has noted with regret the article that was on the front page of the Sunday Times, which gave details of the preliminary report that was presented to them. The SABC would like to express its regret that the individuals names [sic] that were splashed in the newspaper even though the newspaper itself acknowledges that the report was preliminary. This kind of action does not only discredit the individual themselves but also jeopardize the process that we are engaged in.

We would like to urge the public to understand that this report is not final and the SABC board wants to assure the public that they will get to the bottom of the cause of this leakage and make sure that this investigation and many others are finalised as soon as possible without prejudicing any constitutional right of any individual.

The SABC regrets any inconvenience to any person that this irresponsible leakage might have caused.
