David Tlale launches a designer shoe collection

"Animal prints, bling, sequins and vivid colours are essential when adding accessories to complement that special little black dress," says designer David Tlale, explaining why he's brought out his own collection.

"We as a brand really like elaborate designs - so we went really elaborate. You are just going to look super-hot in them."

Right now Tlale cannot define the type of woman who will buy his shoes. "Some girls have said that it is a bit too high and they can't wear it, and it has a bit too much detail.

"I just say 'Babe it's about the experience, try it, put it on and you are not going to want to step out of it'.

"The feel that I wanted to open the collection with is 'Bang! It is out there in your face, love it, hate it, that is it'."

Lira, who attended the launch and did not leave empty-handed, said: "The shoes are absolutely stunning, gorgeous and beautiful - finally we have South African designer shoes - it is about time".

"The pair that I have just bought are probably the most unique shoe that I will be adding to my collection. I now have 'happy feet'."

Tlale's favourite is what he calls the ‘cage shoe'. He says: "You can rock it with just about anything. They can be dressed up or down - wear with jeans, to the office or a party. It does not matter where you go because people are going to say 'Oh my God. Where did you get your shoes? I need to get a pair'."

The shoes will be available from size 3-8 and there will only be 10 pairs per style per size. "So if you miss out, then that is it," says Tlale.

The Summer collection is currently in 10 Luella stores countrywide. Tlale says his upcoming Winter collection is "ready for review". He adds: "We will do seasonal inputs at the stores and are already in discussion about a possible 2010 Summer season collection."

Tlale is also opening up his previously 'strictly by appointment' premises in Parktown North, Johannesburg, to the public from 3pm daily for those who wish to see his latest creations.

He reckons: "It is going to be a beautiful experience especially now that it is almost Christmas and people want to spend money. Thank God that the recession is over - bring on the money and let's just spend it."
