There will also be an overall winner. Certificates and trophies will be presented to winners during an annual gala event at the Hilton Hotel.
Seb Cloete, chairman of the GJCB, says in this event, small businesses will compete on an equal level with large businesses. All profitseeking businesses conducting business in Johannesburg qualify for participation. This includes businesses in Midrand, Sandton, Fourways, Edenvale, Randburg, Roodepoort, the city centre, Soweto and the southern parts of Johannesburg. Businesses which have a head office in another region with a branch in Johannesburg, are also eligible.
To qualify, a business needs to have been operational for at least one financial year. The business must release a set of annual statements to the competition organisers and complete part of the adjudication forms to enable judges to conduct background checks which will ensure that every business judged in the correct category. Non-members of the Chamber of Business may also participate. No additional fees will be charged to non-members, although non-members will be encouraged to join the GJCB. Members of NAFCOC, JCCI etc are also welcome to participate.
Entry forms for the competition is available at . The closing date for entries is Friday November 5, 2004.
The focus of the competition is the balance maintained by companies between profit, client service, sustainability, personnel issues, share holder profits and other social aspects such as welfare responsibilities and innovation.
