Birthday ranking for Starcom MediaVest Group

In time for the Starcom MediaVest Group's (SMG) 11th birthday in South Africa, the recently released RECMA global report Overall Billings Rankings 2010 shows that SMG has taken the lead over OMD in the global network ranking.

Reflecting on the group's achievements, group MD, Gordon Patterson remembers that the group started Starcom South Africa in 2000 with a diverse mix of individuals, all committed to excellence. In 2003, it established the Africa initiative; in 2009, MediaVest was formed and in July 2010, ZenithOptimedia became part of the group. Driving its growth into the digital arena, it launched Liquid Thread late in 2010.

"Each year globally, we identify a theme for the year ahead and for 2011 our theme is 'Outside'. Driving this theme is the belief that our network differentiates itself from others by a better understanding of what happens outside our offices and encourages staff to live, observe, question and strive to better understand human behaviour within their communities.

"Collectively and individually, our future rests in the hands of people to fulfil the opportunity of SMG becoming a true human experience, multi-facetted communication company, bridging disciplines and embracing technologies."
