All Africa Poker moves channel, adds online

Adding to its recent launch of the All Africa Poker Zone every Sunday on e.tv from 11.30pm, it has added its third and newest platform - online. Its market is seen as a techno-savvy one, with many viewers preferring to access their media online, giving them control over when and how they consume content.

Downloads available soon

Viewers will shortly be able to download poker programmes within the iTunes platform, allowing them to watch repeatedly without consuming all their bandwidth. Programmes have also been packaged into smaller clips, so that viewers can share their favourite clips with friends on social platforms such as Facebook, Twitter and YouTube, the latter of which they use extensively.

More than 50% of its viewers are in LSM 10, while over 27% are in LSM 9. Almost 80% earn in excess of R8000 per month. Almost 40% are aged 25-34, 26% aged 18-24, and 24% aged 35-49 and just over 30% of viewers are female.

Poker is enjoying a worldwide renaissance, according to Wendy Graaf, group marketing manager of Piggs Peak Casino, sponsors of All Africa Poker TV. Thanks to the televising of poker tournaments, the card game is attracting more and more fans, most of whom are upmarket.

“With three platforms, we will achieve broader reach into the market, giving more viewers access to our poker content, enabling more people to interact with the All Africa Poker brand,” says Graaf.
