100 graduates from Engen Computer School

100 students have received certificates for completing a course in computer and business skills from the Engen Computer School. Engen and Added Advantage Academy, which runs the school on the refinery's behalf, have provided new computer skills to over 700 students since joining forces three years ago.

The school equips learners with basic computer skills including personal computing, mouse manoeuvring, keyboard use, general competence using Microsoft programmes such as MS word, Excel and PowerPoint, as well as emailing and browsing the Internet.

Director of the programme, Sheryll Cassalis from Added Advantage Academy, says, "Since taking the course, over 240 previously unemployed graduates are now employed." She believes this can partly be attributed to the computer literacy and business skills they attained at the training centre.

Public affairs manager at Engen Refinery, Thandeka Cele added, "We believe in empowering young people with skills that will contribute positively to their lives, especially in today's digitised work environment."
