SACM goes to new publisher, online

Tide Media will cease publishing SACM after the February 2010 issue. Combustion Publishing, which currently publishes two digital magazines, Drive and Mac Action, has acquired the title and will move it from print to an online digital publication.

Veteran ICT editor Russell Bennett will take over as editor and publisher.

"We regret these unfortunate circumstances and are sad to see one of the stalwarts of the local IT print industry fall prey to the economic downturn experienced in 2009. Despite this, our other publication, NAG, showed phenomenal resilience and strength throughout last year, and continued its readership growth. Both NAG and rAge, the annual gaming expo, remain unaffected by the closure of SACM," says Michael James of Tide Media.

Digital future

The magazine will be available monthly as a flip-format digital issue, freely downloadable from 1 March 2010 on the redesigned website, www.sacm.co.za, with all of the advantages of the Internet age, rich media formats and social networking integration.

"With the explosion taking place in the local Internet connectivity segment today, the online market is expected to literally boom over the next year, further improving the reach of our publishing model," comments Russell Bennett. "Being an already tech-savvy market in-line with the latest technological developments around the globe and very comfortable with technology issues, readers will still be able to appreciate similarly cutting-edge content in this new format, but at no cost apart from a small amount of bandwidth."

The February issue goes on sale on Thursday, 28 January 2010.
