Working for peanuts?

"So maybe I am just a tad paranoid, or maybe because on a designers salary my psycho-inhibiters are a bit expensive to support on a regular basis," comments Creative Sideshow, who wants to know how a company can run a competition to find a designer in an era where free pitches are a definite no no in the design establishment.

A couple of days ago, I was doing the early morning cruise through Bizcommunity, and yeah, scanned through the Job section.

And lo and behold, there neatly tucked between the posts, was an ad for a part-time freelance designer for a "Circus" themed DVD. Of course at the mere insinuation of "side-show" I had to take a peak.

These folk are having a "a competition" to pick the winning idea and then will pay for a two week contract. As I said, perhaps I am just neurotic, but there was a little after taste of the suspect.

I thought, as in many countries abroad, we were trying to prevent these free for all "artistic pageants" with the illusive copper carrot being dangled at the end of the stick in the form of a possible contract.

Facilitates, the rest of the planet taking us for the perverbial pony ride.

What a lemon!
