AFDA offers teaching scholarships in their Master of Fine Arts programme
AFDA's MFA programme is currently the only in the country where the production of a full length feature film or complete television series is offered. The degree is fully accredited by the Council on Higher Education and the Department of Education at level 8 of the NQF (HEQC Ref. No. H/PR237/E001CAN).
Students will furthermore complete the research and outcomes of four additional individual course work projects under the guidance of industry mentors and academic supervisors and by doing so gain in-depth knowledge of their discipline and push the boundaries of existing knowledge in that field.
The Master of Fine Arts programme offers specialisation in the following disciplines: Screenwriting, Producing, Directing, Cinematography, Production Design, Editing, Sound Design, Visual Effects, Musical Composition for Motion Picture, and Television Production.
Students who have honours or equivalent qualifications from local or international tertiary institutions in the fields of Literary Studies, Creative Writing, Journalism, Psychology, Drama, the Visual Arts or Business Management may apply for the programme and for the Teaching Scholarships.
These applicants will also have the opportunity to pick up the technical and craft skills of film production by attending appropriate workshops in the under and postgraduate programmes.
Successful applicants will teach academic core course components in the undergraduate programme relevant to their skills base, whilst completing the MFA on a part time basis. They will receive the required training in assessment and presentation skills.
The AFDA MFA Teaching Scholarship is an exceptional opportunity to develop your filmmaking and teaching skills and will result in having highly competitive skills in the local filmmaking industry as well as international recognition from AFDA's fellow member schools of Cilect (The International Association of Film and Television Schools).
