The Caxton stable expands again

The Caxton Urban News stable has launched two new community newspapers: Diepkloof Urban News and Pimville Urban News to advance Caxton's aim of bringing significant local news to the people of Soweto.

Diepkloof Urban News became available the end of June 2005 and Pimville Urban News launches at the end of July 2005. With circulations of 30 000 and 25 000 respectively, the Urban newspaper series now totals 85 000.

Gill Randall, Joint Managing Director of the Newspaper Advertising Bureau, says that retailers have reacted rapidly to the Urban News community papers, with the first in the
series, Protea Urban News, a great success with advertisers: "Diepkloof & Pimville Urban News are appealing to advertisers who are realising the value of reaching people living, working and most recently, shopping in Soweto.

"Diepkloof is an affluent area of Soweto with an effective infrastructure which we believe has not until now, been fully penetrated by advertisers. Pimville, also a prosperous area, is centrally situated with most shopping activities taking place at the Maponya, Trade Route or Bara shopping malls."

Both Diepkloof Urban News and Pimville Urban News are distributed on Thursdays: "Further Urban News papers will be localised to specific areas in Soweto as we are convinced that the time is right to expand the community newspaper model to these areas."
