Mobile operator promotes job creation

MTN is aiming to help alleviate unemployment through the reintroduction of its M-Charge, a virtual prepaid top up product which allows for the sale of airtime to prepaid subscribers without using cards, vouchers or pin numbers.

Says Donovan Smith, GM consumer segment, “There is the very real possibility that as a result of the M-Charge product, we could create 9000 jobs for every 500 000 prepaid subscribers. Just imagine with over six million prepaid subscribers, we could create up to 108 000 new jobs.”

The product is aimed at anyone with an entrepreneurial spirit – small business owners, students, informal traders and spaza shop owners, to name a few. The fact that it is totally mobile – you can do business anywhere, anytime and that you do not need premises to operate your M-Charge business – also makes it ideal for entrepreneurs of all ages.

To set up business, a minimum of R300.00 is required, an MTN cell phone, and a 32k or upwards SIM. Once registered as a vendor, you will get your MTN M-Charge Vendor pack from your nearest distributor which will contain your bib, your hat (sportie) and other point of sale.
