Russian mobile content provider launches in Brazil

ST PETERBURG, RUSSIA: Russian provider of mobile value added services i-Free recently announced the launch of its operations in Brazil, bringing its rollout internationally to a total of seven countries. Brazil, a nation of over 186 million, has a mobile coverage of 50%.

"Content services are one area of business where Russia can compete internationally, so we are set to continue our aggressive overseas expansion," said Aleksei Korobkov, i-Free international development director, commenting on the Brazilian launch. "Our solid experience in India and Mexico is helping us to develop optimal patterns of entering other emerging markets."

Services will be launched via four local mobile operators simultaneously: TIM (Brazil), OI (Telemar), CTBC and Sercomtel, serving an aggregate subscriber base of more than 35 million. Using both its own resources and local operators' portals, initially Brazilian subscribers will have access to Java games, ringtones, realtones, graphics and music, but i-Free plans to soon expand its service portfolio.

International development is a strategic focus for i-Free and the company employs several international market entry strategies. In developing markets, the company sets up subsidiaries to cater to the mass market, localise content, contract with local copyright owners, study the market, and advertise. In developed markets, i-Free operates through local dealers. In Europe, i-Free products and services are marketed by the United Fun Traders (UFT) alliance.

"Our flexible market entry policy enables us to achieve the best results and generate maximum revenues within the shortest time in each new market," added Aleksei Korobkov.

i-Free plans to soon launch its services in China.
