First partnership

It's the first time that Wimpy have partnered with Cape Town based Triggerfish Animation Studios, and the second movie release from Triggerfish, following the successful international release of Adventures in Zambezia in 2012.

"The film is a beautifully crafted and truly South African story, one very similar to ours; a colourful and sometimes hazardous journey, with lots of fun and friendship along the way," says Marianne Fraser, marketing executive for Wimpy, "The partnership seemed obvious and we are excited to be a part of such a successful South African venture."

As well as the main character of Khumba, kids can also collect some of the other colourful characters from the movie including Mama V; an overprotective wildebeest, Bradley; a flamboyant ostrich, Tombi; another young zebra and best friend to Khumba and Skalk, a wild dog who is voiced in the movie by iconic US actor Steve Buscemi.

Extra value to the campaign

Khumba director, Anthony Silverston, is delighted by the partnership with the brand, "It's great to have a South African partner that can add so much value to the campaign and the world of Khumba and his friends. The toys it has created are terrific and it is very rewarding for us to see the characters live in a whole new space."

In addition to the collectible characters, customers at select stores will also have a chance to meet and interact with both Khumba and Mama V as part of a costume character tour currently taking place at schools and shopping malls across the country.
