Arrivals billboard greets the stars

The new billboard at the Cape Town International Airport's arrivals collection point is an extension of Heart 104.9FM's Republic of Cape Town campaign that was launched in August this year. The 100m billboard, done by Lowe Bull, depicts drivers with name boards in their hands picking up visitors, the names being those of bands and singers on Heart's playlist.

"The 100m message is not only a showcase of the station's music offering but again positions the station as the voice of the Republic of Cape Town," says station manager Gavin Meiring. The billboard is supposed to be a way of communicating various messages from and about the station, with the size intended to make a huge impact. Arrivals are meant stand still and pay attention.

"The day Justin Timberlake arrives at the airport, he will know which station to tune into to hear his music," he adds. The message aims to encourage more people to tune into Heart 104.9FM.

The airport billboard placement was timed to welcome the vast numbers of guests and journalists who attended the 2010 final draw on 4 December.
