Life on the silver screen

SABC Education has won a second Silver Screen Award, this time for direction, at the 39th Annual US International Film and Video Festival in Los Angeles. Reality show It's for Life scooped the honour for episode Home Swap, directed by Marguerite Albrecht.

The winning episode is about three diverse individuals from different parts of South Africa who swap homes and face numerous challenges while finding out more about themselves.

Jo Neethling, project manager at SABC Education, says, "The participants Faith Kalipha, Haajirah Abrahams and Thabo Mboneni spent 13 enduring weeks together, participating in a personal growth path. They got to know each other, developed tolerance, learnt to appreciate diversity, rights, values and ethics and finally from everything they learnt they moved into the future to fulfill their dreams."

Mantswe a Bonono, a TV documentary series that celebrates the work and lives of South Africa's published and unpublished word artists, also recently won two awards at the festiva, a Silver Screen Award and third place for creative excellence in the arts and culture category.

The festival received over 1250 entries from 26 countries this year.

It's for Life can be seen on SABC 2 on Sundays at 12pm.
