National Geographic now 24/7 on TV

As a result of National Geographic Channel changing to the Central European programme schedule from the Benelux schedule, DSTV's National Geographic Channel has increased its South African programme times to become a 24 hour channel, starting 1 August 2006.

According to Errol Pretorius, regional director of National Geographic Channel Africa, "We decided to increase and thereby improve our programming times as our viewer's expressed that they would prefer premier programmes to start earlier in the evening and weekend programming to start in the morning rather than early afternoon."

The new Central European schedule allows premier programmes to now air between 8pm and 10pm, compared to the Benelux schedule, where they were aired as late as 10pm or 11pm to cater specifically for Holland, Belgium, Scandinavia and Turkey.
