Algoa FM, part of the African Media Entertainment (AME) stable, has already been helping promote a number of the Southern Cape's big events and these partnerships will be able to grow with its extended footprint. It also gives advertisers a reach to an audience of skilled professionals who have relocated to the coast, wealthy holiday makers and comfortably retired people.

"We will be actively promoting the whole region to the thousands of people who travel along the Garden Route and those who visit the Eastern Cape. This will help the tourism industry to encourage people to stay a little longer, to explore the region more, and to come back again the next year to experience what they missed," says Algoa FM MD Dave Tiltmann.

The station is optimistic it will increase the listenership, currently at around 800 000, to the 1 million mark by 2012.

Tiltmann hopes to be broadcasting to the Garden Route towns in the Southern Cape by this December and is already recruiting staff from the region.

Sports show moves from Chai FM to Radio Today

Radio Today (1485am and DSTV audio channel 169), has added SportsFire, which launched on Chai FM in May this year, to its lineup from Monday 12 September. Hosted by Joffe, the straight-talking sports call-in show will be broadcast live on Monday and Thursday nights from 5.30pm-6.30pm.

The Rugby World Cup 2011 will be covered by rugby analyst Dan Retief and stand-up comedian Malcolm Ferreira ('Jan" in the Vodacom ads) will provide the lighter side of sport.

The Radio 2000 awards night will have the province's premier, Cassell Mathale attend with the executive mayor, Freddie Greaver, some of Limpopo's MECs, SABC's spokesperson Kaizer Kganyago and head of radio, Leslie Ntloko.

As a way of giving back to the Polokwane community, the station's personalities and staff will join the executive mayor during his clean-up campaign which will run from 8.30-11.30am.
