Licence conversion public hearings shifted

The Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA) last week announced the postponement – by a week – of the public hearings for the conversion of all communications licences in terms of the Electronic Communications Act.

The hearings will no longer be held on Tuesday, 25 September 2007, as per earlier communications, but will take place 1 – 11 October.

In a statement issued to the press, ICASA said that it “is asking for the forbearance of all licensees and stakeholders in this regard, and would like to re-assure all parties involved of its commitment to make the licence conversion process as inclusive, transparent and consultative as possible.

“The august nature of the licence conversion process requires the participation of and buy-in from all affected parties, and ICASA commits itself to play an enabling role in this regard.”
