IT hubs for SA universities
Communications Minister Roy Padayachie, according to Business Report, is encouraging nine universities in South Africa to create information and communications technology (ICT) hubs in order to boost skills, as part of a drive to create a million new jobs in the country.
In an article published in the publication, Padayachie says that the government intended to revitalise the electronics industry. Over the weekend he and the leaders of Vodacom, MTN, Allied Technologies and various other companies signed an ICT competitiveness and job creation agreement committing to 100% broadband penetration by 2020.
He says that by 2020 he wants to see South Africa in the Top Three of emerging market countries in ICT.
