Telling the South African story of branding...

Story telling is internationally recognized as a powerful medium for communicating corporate messages. Africa, and particularly those of us on the southern tip of the continent, have story telling running deep in our veins, and so it is particularly apposite that we should utilize this art form as our key driver for the Brand Awards, 7 June 2005.

Storytelling is the theme which will weave a thread throughout the evening's proceedings, hosted by the Marketing Federation of SA (MFSA) as part of the festivities for its MFSA Winter School of Excellence (6 - 8 June, Sandton Sun) being run alongside the annual marketing show, Markex (7 - 9 June, Sandton Convention Centre).

Storytellers will include Gcina Mhlope-Becker, recognized as one of our country's finest when it comes to linking cultural heritage with corporate messaging, utilizing a style that goes to the core of our being proudly African and South African.

From David Kau sharing his humorous perspective on brands, with particular reference to his own status as a South African brand, to each of the winners providing their own brand story, the evening will unfold as a powerful narrative of our country's finest, according to the MFSA.

At this gala event, the real stars will be South Africa's Top Ten Brands, as measured by Interbrand Sampson last month. This evening will showcase those top brands, tellking their stories and rewarding this special achievement in the marketing industry.

This event will showcase the people, their marketing and communication strategies and brand activities that placed them in this remarkable group. This dinner will be attended by the Industry's top echelon and leading entrepreneurs as well as a host of South African dignitaries.

The Top Brands which will be showcased for the evening are: Pick n Pay; Old Mutual; DeBeers; SAB - Castle; Telkom; MTN; Standard Bank; ABSA; FNB; as well as the SABC, which has assisted the MFSA in making the evening possible.
