New BWA appointments in KZN
Nobuntu Webster, who heads up integrated marketing consulting firm Ayano Communications, is the new vice chairperson of the Businesswomen's Association in KwaZulu-Natal. Farzanah Mall, an associate director in the audit, risk and compliance services division of KPMG, is the chairperson.

For Webster, the development of business and professional women in Durban is dependent on the unlocking of empowerment opportunities, both in the private and public sector. Despite a marginal increase in 2010 over 2009, figures show that women are still dramatically under-represented in both sectors.
"One of our goals this year as BWA is to strengthen our role as the voice of business women. This way, women are not only empowered but also afforded the opportunity to operate within enabling environments." She adds that while there was a marginal increase in women directors in 2010, this was not the case for black women where the number of female directors has declined since 2008.
Firm focus
Increasing the number and quality of representation of women across all racial groups in KwaZulu-Natal is a firm focus of the branch, as is the development of youth through school visits and exposure to the workplace. Mentorship is another key objective for 2010.
On this score, this leadership duo believes that one of the biggest challenges for women in the workplace is self esteem. Women tend to believe they have never done enough to deserve the recognition.
In addition to the launch of its mentorship programme, the association will be increasing CSI initiatives designed to empower women and girls with skills and knowledge.
