The brainchild of ex-'The Good Weekend' editor, Riekie Greyling, Naushad Khan and James Meaker, the guide has grown by leaps and bounds in just over three months.
The free publication is distributed every Friday morning throughout Cape Town. With a distribution of 26 000 and available at BP Express stores, Exclusive Books, Mugg & Beans, coffee shops in the CBD and major inbound traffic intersections, The Next 48hOURS is taking the major Friday newspapers head-on.
Their secret to their success is a simple one as explains MD Naushad Khan, "We feel there is a definite need for a local weekend paper as other publications are too focused on telling the readers what they can do outside of Cape Town, we do the reverse. There is so much for Capetonians to do over the weekend right here. Our aim is to stimulate local growth in this amazing city of ours."
According to the award winning Editor, Riekie Greyling, "48hOURS is a magazine in a newspaper jacket, the design, quality, editorial content and the use of colour makes this publication something completely different." The policy of using 'ordinary' Capetonians on the cover has made 48hOURS a real winner with it's readers.
As the copy relies on advertising, reasonable rates apply and their in-house design department will conceptualise and create ads as part of the package deal. This really appeals to the smaller companies who do not have the means to outsource their design needs themselves.
