TV and Cinema Crafts judging panel
The Loeries' judging will take place in Johannesburg at Vega, The Brand Communications School, from 30 June until 4 July 2008.
The finalists will be announced on 7 July, and the winners will receive their awards at the festival weekend, which will take place in Margate on the South Coast from Friday 25 to Monday 28 July.
Forget individual agency after-parties this year; the Loeries is putting together the mother-of-all parties after the Saturday and Sunday award ceremonies in Margate. “We definitely want to party together as the entire industry this year as we celebrate 30 years of creativity,” says Loeries chairman Festus Masekwameng.
The Loeries is taking over Backline, the club at the Margate Hotel, and “putting it on steroids,” according to Andrew Shelly from H-Factor, the staging company for The Loerie Awards 2008. The whole street will be cordoned off, with sound and AV screens outside.
“The approach to the parties will be like a major club event - like H20, Saturday Surgery, Oskido's Church and The Vinyl Frontier events, with added lounges and bars to ease pressure and flow,” he adds.
The DJ lineup includes Johannesburg and Cape Town's best: Ready D, Oskido, Kevin Grenfel, DJ Fresh, Dino Bravo, Vimo, Euphonik and Ricardo Da Costa, who will be supported by the ad industry's finest DJ's Graeme Jenner, Jonathan Beggs and The Loerie Awards Chairman, Festus Masekwameng.
The VIP Lounge on the top floor will remain open late into the night, with a separate DJ playing lounge tunes, while a separate VIP area will be available in the main party venue.
Agencies can book private tables, which seat eight to 12 people and have standing space for 30 more, for the after-parties. For a fee of R6000 for either night, the tables will come with a complementary bottle of Smirnoff Red, a case of Red Bull and a case of Heineken as well as a R3000 bar tab - which will even be refunded in the unlikely event of it not being used up… Each table will have its own dedicated waitron.
The after-parties open on Saturday and Sunday at 9pm and will still be thumping when the sun rises. Tables are limited, so hurry to book yours, or you might be left standing out in the cold.
