Fin24 refutes Moneyweb plagiarism, copyright infringement allegations

24.com says it is a leading digital publisher and takes very seriously the rights and ownership related to digital content. Fin24 will vigorously defend Moneyweb's application launched in the Gauteng South High Court for alleged plagiarism, copyright infringement and unfair competition.
Innocent; says attribution given on all occasions
While Moneyweb argues that Fin24 used content unlawfully and offered it as its own, Fin24 denies these charges and says that no time did they infringe copyright or pretend to pass off the work of others as their own. Fin24 states that clear attribution is and was used at all times when elements of content are used from third-party sources. All the 24.com platforms, including Fin24, publish content in line with internationally accepted digital practices and it is part of Fin24's content mix to publish relevant financial news from across the industry where this is in the public interest.
Says 24.com CEO, Geoff Cohen: "The upcoming case is very important to 24.com and all publishers as it could set a legal framework for fair use and content aggregation - a practice that is as old as the free media and used by every single media organisation globally. We look forward to this case establishing precedent."
