- Times Live: Vavi furious over union's 'porn' link... Oh dear, Vavi was surprised - to say the least of it - when he got one of those "Guess what..." type of calls from the Sunday Times last week.
It was to let him know that the SA Clothing and Textile Workers', through an investment company in which it has a large stake, is linked to a bid to buy a US company trading as NOOF and which is in the hard porn business.
Vavi is reported as saying "This is very terrible, I wasn't aware of it," and "They [Sactwu] got themselves into trouble and we absolutely expect them to get themselves out of it."
So, it looks like the ball is in Sactwu's court, then.
Some people might wonder if the union, after this debacle, would be very wary of sending representatives to any British union get-togethers taking place in, for example, East Sussex, Essex, Middlesex, Sussex or West Sussex.
Isn't it a little ironic, however, that a union for a sector that aims to put clothes on people, has ended up being linked to a bid to buy a business that is all about taking clothes off people.
