The Killers top the Top 20 downloads in SA
The top 20 of streams and downloads had been announced by simfy Africa, described as South Africa's first legal music streaming service. This diverse play list includes some of the hottest new releases of the year, all featured onsite on the day of international release and South African favourites.
Based on the amount of streams and downloads, The Killers came in as the most popular song of 2012, with Runaways. Pop - rock dominates the chart with Fun, Carly Rae Jepsen, Mumford & Sons and Muse all featured strongly. The diversity of the list shows the diversity of the fan base, incorporating Afrikaans, indie, dance and kwaito.
The site is pleased to see that five of the Top 20 songs are from South African artists. Since its launch earlier this year, the site has offered a wide range of South African artists and the public has responded well to finding their favourite South African artist available on the service.
Song & Album of the Year
Many votes came in for the South African song and album of the year and, while it was a challenge for the team to weigh up all the criteria, from popularity, influence and the subjective x factor, it selected Kongos - Come With Me Now, as the first annual South African Song of the Year. The simfy Africa Album of the Year is Kabomo - All Things Grey.
