Coordinated by the Online Publishers Association (OPA), Bookmarks celebrates digital media in all its guises, promotes digital media in South Africa and establishes it as a standard part of the marketing mix. The event will be filled with industry insights, networking and the chance to acknowledge everyone who works so hard to push the limits of creativity within a commercial (and sometimes challenging) environment.

Semi-finalists will be announced on 9 October and Bookmarks week opens in Cape Town with Tony Koenderman's Brainstorm on Monday 9 November and the Bookmarks workshop. Finalists are announced on 10 November and then Brainstorm and workshop move to Johannesburg on Wednesday 11, culminating in the Bookmarks Awards on Thursday 12 November.

“New marketing environment”

“Brainstorm is not a conference about online marketing, but about the new marketing environment, where traditional and digital media combine to deliver a seamless message at every possible touch-point with the consumer,” explains Koenderman.

“The marketing world has ‘hit the re-set button,' and started again, as everyone was saying in Cannes this year. Marketing campaigns are being driven by the Internet rather than the big TV commercial, but they are integrated across a multi-channel platform more than ever before.”

Speakers include two of the world's leading experts in online marketing; Fernanda Romano, global creative director at Euro RSCG, on how to maximise your marketing and Chris Colborn, chief experience officer at R/GA of New York, will lead a workshop session examining the quality of local work and its global competitiveness. Both are judges in Bookmarks.

Sessions will be jargon-free, action-oriented and focus on how to catch up with the developed world. Speakers will illustrate their points with case studies and include an action list of things to do right away.
