Brazilian online marketing expert for Brainstorm

She's one of the world's hottest creative directors in online advertising, and she's coming to South Africa to speak at Tony Koenderman's Ad Brainstorm conference in October 2007. She's also Brazilian, which gives her a uniquely appropriate perspective from which to speak to a South African audience. She's Fernanda Romano, the executive creative director of Lowe Worldwide New York, who won seven Cyber Lions and the Cyber Lion Grand Prix at the Cannes Festival in 2005.

Her achievements at Cannes catapulted her then-agency, the legendary Brazilian shop DM9 DDB, to the Cannes Interactive Agency of the Year award.

She will be talking about the potential of online marketing in an emerging market environment.

Aged 32, she was born in São Paulo, Brazil, has a degree in business management, started her life in advertising at Carillo Pastore EURO RSCG in São Paulo and has worked for several Internet companies. She has also served as a jury member for The One Show Interactive Awards and the LIA Awards, and has taught at the Interactive Communications and Design Miami Ad School/ESPM Sao Paulo. When she's not building brands with award-winning work, Romano writes guest columns for technology publications and appears on Brazil television as an expert on all things interactive.

She joined DM9 DDB in 2002 as director of interactive communications and was made director of other media and special projects in the end of 2004, overseeing a team of 32 people, including creative and production, with the main task of driving creative integration between all media for the agency's clients. In December 2005 she moved to Lowe NY, and has since been working on campaigns for clients such as Nokia, Saab USA, Earthlink and Unilever.

The Brainstorm conference will be held on 10 October at The Wanderers Club, Johannesburg. Email for details and booking form.
