    TBWA Joburg wins the lottery

    After a three-way pitch against FCB and Ogilvy’s Zoom Advertising, TBWA\Hunt\Lascaris Johannesburg has won the South African National Lottery account. The account, which includes the portfolio of Lotto, Lotto Plus, Wine Manje and SportsStake, is reportedly worth approximately R70 million.

    Says David Wingfield, MD of TBWA\Hunt\Lascaris Johannesburg, “We are over the moon with our Lottery winnings; this is a great coup for the Johannesburg agency and a fantastic start to the New Year. This account brings with it many challenges and our staff is motivated and gearing up to pull out all the stops.”

    The new lottery operator, the Gidani Consortium, takes over from Uthingo from 1 April 2007, with the new advertising campaign breaking at the same time. The Gidani Consortium will hold the tender for seven years.

    “We are proud to partner the Gidani Consortium and look forward to taking on the challenge of re-energising, driving awareness and ultimately building on the existing Lotto brand,” concludes Wingfield.
