US retail giant Wal-Mart will next year begin a phased roll-out of radio frequency identification (RFID) technology across its stores and distribution networks. The new technology allows for whole trollies to be scanned at once, rather than individual items. There is concern among manufacturers and suppliers, however, at the high cost of acquiring and attaching the tags to the products.
