The background

GetSmarter is a high-touch online education company that works together with the University of Cape Town and industry experts to present courses throughout South Africa. It has trained over 10,000 students in the past four years, in such diverse topics as labour law, creative writing and project management - all from the comfort of the students' homes or offices.

After the runaway success of the University of Cape Town Internet Marketing course (now in its 7th presentation), GetSmarter offered the UCT Social Media course for the first time in August 2012.

According to Marketing Manager, Robyn Allan, the University of Cape Town Social Media short course accepted more than double the anticipated number of students than initially expected. This provides a clear indication that there is a great demand among media and marketing professionals for specialised skill sets that will enable them to advance in their careers.

Alan continues to say that they "have no doubt that the three newly launched courses, all starting in November 2012, will be equally popular among those seeking cutting edge skills that will give them the foundation they need for a successful marketing career".
