King of South African fashion David Tlale is full of surprises. Just when everyone was expecting drama and glamour at the introduction of his latest summer shoe range, he slowed things down.
After a theatrical showing at the CircaArt Gallery earlier this year, fans and critics alike expected something very dramatic from Tlale.
Tlale, who usually causes a stampede of stylish celebs at his events, left everyone dashed by his uninspired range.
The collection featured average bejewelled pumps, beaded sandals, ballet pumps and bags.
Journalists and fans were left murmuring and complaining about the collection.
Among them was well-known fashion blogger Maque DeGorgeous, who complained that the collection was not what you would expect from Tlale.
"It is a watered down collection. Very unDavid Tlale," he said.
One journalist complained that the shoes looked as if they came from Chinatown.
"The collection looks like it was taken from Chinatown and Tlale just put his label on them," she complained.
This collection follows the Luella-David Tlale Limited Edition that debuted in December 2009.
"We had such a positive response to our David Tlale-Luella fusion shoes last year and the ladies told me how much they loved the sexy elegance and confidence that collection gave them," Tlale said.
He said this year he thought it would be best to continue with that sexy elegance, but give it more comfort and grace.
The David Tlale Collection is available at selected Luella stores this month.
