Cannes - South African treaty, promotion, business
The Department of Arts & Culture (DAC) will finalise and sign a South African/French co-production treaty, thus enabling productions from both territories to qualify for the different incentives associated with homegrown content. A program of corporation, which covers all areas of arts and culture, will also be signed at the event.
The NFVF, dti and IMC will promote South Africa as a premiere filmmaking destination, to position the country as a co-production partner of choice and to strengthen relations.
Four filmmakers sponsored
Four sponsored local filmmakers who will be conducting business and featuring their films in Cannes are Hanneke Schutte, Junaid Ahmed, Zaheer Bhyat and Greig Buckle. Buckle's 'Life Above All' has been selected for Un Certain Regard - the festivals World Cinema Showcase. Buckle produced the film, with the South African born Oliver Schmitz as the director.
Line-up event
On Friday 14 May, the NFVF will host a line-up event, where South African projects will be presented to international sales agents, financiers, distributors, co-production partners, buyers and festival programmers. Films include:
SA networking, pavilion welcomes the world
The NFVF, DTI and IMC will host a South African networking event on May 15 2010, reportedly one of the more sought after invites at Cannes, which provides an opportunity for South African delegates to network with key international decision makers. South Africa's DJ Switch will provide the guests with the best of home-brewed music.
The South Africa pavilion, hosted by the NFVF, DAC, dti and IMC at the Village International, provides a business environment for all South African delegates to host meetings and provides screening facilities for those who wish to showcase their films during their meetings.
