The organisers of Encounters are calling for feature, mid-length, and short documentary film entries for the 2022 edition of the Festival.
Encounters is returning to celebrate the best of independent filmmaking for the 24th-anniversary edition with a multi-platform event from 23 June to 3 July 2022.
The Festival discovers and showcases the best documentaries from talented filmmakers spanning South Africa, the broader African region, and the rest of the world. The line-up of award winners and nominees, hidden gems and the most talked-about documentaries of the year will engage, entertain, and inspire South African audiences.
The Festival programmers are looking for films that tackle current issues from unique perspectives, take audiences on a journey of discovery and innovate the genre form.
Despite the challenging past two years, since the inaugural event in 2019 there have been over 2,000 entries from 97 countries...
