Mogale, who rejoined Sunday World in mid-December 2006 as acting editor, is currently busy with transformation of the newspaper in preparation for a re-launch in April.
Mogale has been a journalist his entire working life, beginning his career at the Rand Daily Mail as a reporter. He was selected and offered a three-year training course at the South African Associated Newspapers School of Journalism in Johannesburg. As part of training, he worked as a reporter for the Eastern Province Herald (Port Elizabeth) and the now defunct Sunday Express. He also worked as a reporter on the Sunday Times.
In 1980 Mogale joined Post, a publication which was forced to close, and as a result Sowetan was born. Mogale was in the team that founded this newspaper and the first lead story was written by him.
In 1987 he joined New Nation as sub-editor; he then moved to City Press as reporter. There Mogale was promoted to news editor, then production editor and ultimately assistant editor (news). He also wrote a column for the newspaper titled ‘Nothing but The Truth’.
In 2003 he left to join Drum magazine as editor-in-chief. In 2004 he went on to pursue a private business initiative, and later joined KalaneWalsh Media as editor-in-chief of the stable's publications (which included Business SA, MyBusiness and Umnotho).
Mogale joined Sowetan in 2005 as night editor, and also took over the portfolio of regions editor.
