Brand Council to release Brand Marketing Barometer

The Brand Council of South Africa will release landmark research results that expose the state of the country's brand marketing industry next week. Industry experts are calling the event the biggest on the council's agenda for the year.

Important results

"Interest in the inaugural Brand Marketing Barometer survey has been huge and justifiably so. The research findings will not only detail the status quo of the brand marketing industry but more importantly, they will provide a much-needed framework for priority action going forward," said BCSA chairman, Sean McCoy.

"Branding can build nations. It can impact on socio-economic growth and it has the power to change lives - but only if efforts are channelled in the right direction and with the right impetus. The council's research project, led by fellow director, David Blyth, provides the council, the industry and the country as a whole with a springboard for positive change."

Urgent priorities

The results have been kept under wraps, but McCoy did reveal that the survey respondents - opinion leaders from various sectors of the brand marketing industry - felt that the practice of branding was undervalued and underperforming. The need to upgrade skills and to have more visible industry leadership was also flagged as urgent priorities.

The results will be announced at a cocktail function at the Gordon Institute of Business Science in Johannesburg on 27 August at 5.45pm. The keynote speaker will be Sechaba Motsieloa, corporate affairs director at McDonald's.
