HKLM does Sandton, doll

The distinctive new identity and brand architecture created for the Sandton Central area by strategic brand consultants, Harwood Kirsten Leigh McCoy (HKLM), coupled with a bold marketing plan, should establish the region as a leading global urban precinct.

HKLM, Adfocus Brand Agency of the Year 2004, was appointed by marketing strategists, Freed Thinkers, with whom they have worked extensively in the past, to develop the new identity launched this week.

Sandton Central (previously called the Sandton precinct) comprises a diversity of elements, including leading retail and fashion centres, businesses, the JSE, local government offices, schools, sports and medical facilities, arts and cultural centres and libraries.

Charles Kuzmanich of HKLM said a key fundamental of the project was to 'inject some soul' into the area, and establish it as a central node which catered for every aspect of an individual's personal and business life.

"HKLM designed an identifying logo for the area, signage, urban architecture, posters and a map system directing visitors to the area. The eventual aim is for organisations within Sandton Central to use the logo as endorsement. We have also retained the current red and black livery of the mobile security officers - but intend leveraging that identity and associated brand value much further."
