Matric results go mobile

On Thursday, 29 December 2005, South African matriculants can access their matric examination results from around the world, through the SABC mobile service Newsbreak 082 152. SABC News, in association with Vodacom, Marketel, The Department of Education, the State Information Technology Agency and Nedbank Dezign Banking will publish matric results on Newsbreak 082 152, on option 6.

Accessing the voice service from 29 December 2005 and any time thereafter is instantaneous once connected. Wherever there is a cellphone signal the results can be accessed, even in the United States (by dialing +27 82 152) or the United Kingdom by dialing the special line +27 82 234 2900. Matriculants can also use a landline to listen to results by following the instructions after selecting option 6 and using the hash (#) key to select further options and punch in your details.

Matriculants can also register to receive their results via SMS.

Nkosi Sishi, the Chief Director of Measurement, Assessment and Public Examinations, said that the project was a great partnership between the public and business sectors with government.

How the line works

Students will this year have three ways of accessing their results using this popular service:

1. From now on, students can simply SMS the word MATRIC followed by their ID number, to 35470 to receive their detailed results on the day of release.
2. They can also call 082 152 option 6, and register by following the instructions.
3. On the day of the results release they can now call in to listen to their results via 082 152 option 6.

In every case, they must have both their ID number and exam number handy. Making use of innovative cellular technology, this service provides callers with detailed and overall results on whether they have passed each subject as well as their overall results.
