Direct Marketing News South Africa

New Direct Marketing body under construction

At the end of November a call was made to Direct Marketers encouraging their attendance at meetings to discuss the future of Direct in SA. The meeting was extremely well attended with over 100 participants from key organisations in both Cape Town and Johannesburg.

From feedback provided, it is clear that the Direct Industry will look to set up its own association in order to address many significant and pressing issues which, if not addressed, will negatively impact the industry.

The Johannesburg meeting was chaired by Rory Duckles of Agon Marketing and Patrick Muthui of FNB Direct Channel, with Darryl Joubert from Intimate Date chairing Cape Town. Attendees were invited to join sub-committees who were tasked with taking their particular topic/issue offline, "unpacking", strategising and reporting back in January 2006. Response iro sub-committees has been overwhelming with a number of sub-committees already having had their first meeting. With a looming deadline of 28th February 2006 for our Data Privacy Legislation submission, Andy Quinan has already facilitated a meeting of the Legislation Committee and minutes thereof are available, should interested parties wish to access these.

The next Direct Industry meetings are scheduled as follows:

Johannesburg 24th January from 15:00 to 18:00

Cape Town 26th January from 15:00 to 18:00

In both instances venue to be advised. All are welcome to join.
