Strike Media gets Red Bull airborne via mobile
Strike Media teamed up with Red Bull at the 2012 Flugtag event in Cape Town in early December. The event was organised by Red Bull and required competitors to attempt to fly homemade, size and weight limited, human-powered flying machines. The flying machines were launched off a pier at a height of about 10m, and into the sea.

The event was held at the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town and a large crowd of spectators attended to watch the 41 teams competing.
With the goal of giving every person attending the event the opportunity to participate in the voting process for their favourite team, Strike Media developed multiple mobile user engagement platforms. By dialling a USSD access number from any handset the user launched the interactive USSD site, a text-based portal, and could then register and vote for their favourite flying machine. For the users who own Smartphones, they could access a mobi site via the URL or by scanning the QR Codes at the venue for similar functionality.
This meant that not only the judges' opinion mattered as spectators were involved and able to vote on the day and the live, real-time results were projected on multiple big screens at the venue creating user engagement and enhancing the competitively fun atmosphere within the crowds.
