Mondi South Africa board restructured to reflect transformation

Mondi South Africa has restructured its board of directors to reflect the substantial restructuring and transformation that the paper and packaging giant has undergone in the past year.

Anglo South Africa's wholly owned subsidiary, Mondi South Africa, has undergone a substantial restructuring during the last year. This has included the sale of meaningful equity stakes in its domestic newsprint and packaging businesses to empowerment group Shanduka Resources, as well as a reorganisation of the management of its eucalyptus-based woodchip, pulp and woodfree paper businesses.

These changes, together with ongoing initiatives for training, development and advancement of HDSA employees, with several smaller empowerment transactions and with the fruits of energetic commitment to BEE procurement, make Mondi a substantially transformed company.

As a final step in this process of change, and reflecting its long-term commitment to transformation and to good governance, Mondi is pleased to announce changes to its board of directors which is now constituted as follows:
Godfrey Gomwe (Non-Executive Chairman)
John Barton (Chief Executive Officer) (alternate Michael Sablatnig)
David Barber
Gunther Hassler (alternate Peter Duval)
David Hathorn (alternate Kurt Mitterbock)
Claudia Manning
Viv McMenamin
Cyril Ramaphosa
Andrew Thompson
Theo van Breda
Lazarus Zim
Company Secretary: Philip Laubscher

Mondi Group CEO, David Hathorn, comments, "These changes to the board represent the culmination of a strategic repositioning of Mondi South Africa under the leadership of Andrew Thompson as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. He has now retired from these positions, but has agreed to remain as a non-executive director of the company. He will be taking on a new business development role in Anglo's Ferrous Metals and Industries division. Mondi is greatly indebted to Andrew for his significant contribution to the group over many years and we wish him every success in the future. Mondi is also most grateful to the other retiring directors for their contributions to the affairs of the company."
