Township TV to screen State of Nation address

President Zuma's State of the Nation address tomorrow evening, Thursday, 10 February 2011, will be broadcast live by TownShip TV (known as MTN Ekasi TV during 2010) in all the parks hosting the community-based big screen TVs.

"It's very important that all communities have access to what government is planning for the 2011 and 2012 financial year," says Township TV co-founder Graeme Joffe.

Township TV is a social responsibility initiative used daily to help educate, entertain and uplift the communities. The project was born from a partnership between Johannesburg City Parks and Township TV and the first permanent big screen TV went up in Diepsloot in 2007. Last year, over 640 000 people watched the 2010 FIFA World Cup in the parks and Township TV intends to continue the legacy.

MTN committed to the title sponsorship for 2011 but withdrew in December 2010, citing budget cuts. Township TV is engaging with other potential partners to keep the social responsibility world cup legacy project going.

"We are also hoping to create something special in the parks for the cricket and rugby world cups," adds Joffe.
