First milestone for CNBC Africa

In celebration of its first birthday on 1 June 2008, CNBC Africa has minted 250 fine silver coins. “Being a business and markets network and following Africa's precious metals every day, it was a perfect fit for us to commemorate our first birthday with something that encapsulates our areas of focus,” explains Peter Ndoro, one of the network's anchors and its head of corporate communications.

The limited edition coins will feature the CNBC Africa peacock brand identity and the years 2007 and 2008 to symbolise the landmark date.

The back of the coin will carry the network's pay-off line ‘First in Business Worldwide' with an image of the globe with Africa in the centre, illustrating the extent of CNBC Africa within a global presence.

The coins will be mounted in custom-made Crystalique boxes manufactured by Jenna Clifford and will be given to selected guests at the network's first birthday celebration later this month.

Ndoro minted 250 sterling silver coins at the Gold Reef City Mint, making it the first time the mint has made coins for a television station. Gold Reef City Mint is the only private mint in South Africa that has been authorised to manufacture SA legal proof coinage under supervision of the South African Mint. It has minted legal tender coins for the following countries: Zambia, Uganda, Equatorial Guinea, Thomas & Prince, Suriname and Nicaragua, and medals for the Kingdom of Swaziland.
