CapeTalk Voice Search winner

Dance and drama teacher Trish Sutton, 32, has won the Capetalk 567 Voice Search 2002 competition, beating about 500 hopefuls to take first place in the hotly contested talent search. She will now be offered further training and will host a show on Cape Town's pre-eminent talk radio station.

Sutton, a mother of two who lives in Fish Hoek and who is also an amateur dramatist, said she was "ecstatic". "I thought it was too good to be true when I made the final 10 and had made up my mind that that was it. When I was told that I had won I was overwhelmed with excitement. My family are so proud and excited," she said.

Sutton, who has a degree in psychology, said she was looking forward to working with the rest of the highly talented Capetalk team and gaining experience from some of the country's most distinguished broadcasters.

She said she believed her confidence helped her clinch the contest: "I enjoy life and am happy where I am in life. I also have a spark and can get across to people on air. Capetalk has enough people who are controversial and maybe they needed someone who is 'Mr or Mrs Nice Guy'".

Capetalk's programme manager Vasili Vass said: "It was difficult to choose a winner but Trish Sutton stood out. All 10 finalists were talented and have the potential to play a role in radio - but, there could only be one winner."

Vass said Sutton would be trained over the next few weeks and would host an overnight show.

Runner up, Dugald Pieterse from Rondebosch will also undergo training at Capetalk. The other eight finalists were: Adrian Alberts, Owen Simons, Niel Ovens, Makhosazana Dludla, Richard Green, Roi Simpson, Brian Berkman and Raymond Silinga.
