After 13 years of hosting the Rude Awakening breakfast show on 94.7 Highveld Stereo, Jeremy Mansfield's final day on air will be on 12 July 2010. The surprise announcement was made during the show this morning, Thursday 10 June. [audio]
The show, which broadcasts 6am - 9am weekdays, will continue with Darren Simpson, Samantha Cowen and the team. Mansfield was diagnosed with cancer last year and during his chemotherapy treatment, the rest of the team carried the show very successfully. According to a press statement, they now have a tried, tested and proven formula in place to take the show forward.
Commented Mansfield, "I've thoroughly enjoyed my time with the show. Management and the Primedia Broadcasting Board have asked me to stay active in other areas of the radio business, which I am looking forward to," he said.
Made Joburg more charitable
Mansfield emotionally told his listeners this morning that he hopes that his best legacy will be having made Joburg more charitable.
"Jeremy has contributed significantly to developing the team and has personally supported and endorsed this change," said CEO of Primedia Broadcasting Terry Volkwyn. "We look forward to working with Jeremy in his new role, and know that the team will build on the wonderful foundation Jeremy was instrumental in laying," she continued.
CEO of the Primedia Group, Kuben Pillay, paid a special tribute to Mansfield for his tremendous contribution to radio broadcasting in South Africa, and the success of the 94.7 brand in the Primedia stable.
