Show us ya' cool wool

5FM's irrepressible morning DJ, Mark Gillman and his breakfast team are travelling around the country for the next two weeks looking for winter woollies to keep the destitute and a couple of celebrities warm.

Gillman is asking listeners to donate blankets and clothing to the Benylin & Sinutab Winter Survivors campaign who are aiming to collect 10 000 bags of clothing and  blankets to donate to the I Care Charity.

Some members of the Breakfast team assisted by local schoolchildren will man the collection points across the country to collect blankets and clothing.

To raise further awareness for the campaign, a group of celebrities and 5FM listeners will spend the night of 22 July in a homeless shelter or informal settlement in Johannesburg, Durban and Cape Town, with only the donated blankets for warmth.

Says Mark Gillman, "Everyone spends their days talking about how they would love to do something for the poor and the suffering, well here's your chance to help a fellow South African to survive winter 2004."

Added Linda Gotlieb of Pfizer, "We were delighted with the number of blankets we raised last year, not to mention the awareness of those living in informal settlements. This year, we hope to more than triple the amount of bags of clothing and blankets we collect. We are very grateful to the celebrities and 5FM for taking this charitable event to their hearts."

'I Care Charity' is a non-profit organisation that seeks to rehabilitate and educate street children
