Giving the homeless a voice

Radio 2000 recently launched its national Plight of the Homeless campaign, in partnership with various malls in Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban, with the aim of encouraging people to help make an actual difference and restore the dignity of the homeless.

All participating malls have demarcated areas where the general public are able to drop off food, clothing and blankets which will be donated to various shelters across the country.

The radio station has also been holding interviews with Government, NGOs and shelters to give listeners an insight as to how serious this social problem is – the humiliation, suffering and inhumane treatment the homeless endure.

Comments Thelma Chetty, Radio 2000's acting station manager, “The Plight of the Homeless campaign is an initiative which is a true reflection of what we all can do to make a positive contribution to those who are less fortunate in our communities.”

The campaign launched on 11 June 2007.
