Fresh blood for Algoa's weekend line-up

Algoa FM's Monday to Friday mid-morning host Charl Leslie will be anchoring a new programme called "The Glory Days" which takes to the airwaves at 9am on Sunday, 19 November 2006. This is just one of the changes to the weekend line-up announced earlier today, Thursday, 9 November. With the exception of the Algoa FM Top 30 with Lance Du Plessis, every other weekend show on the station will be hosted by a new presenter.

Programme manager Alfie Jay says: "While every other radio station has frequently been changing its line-up over the past thre years, Algoa FM has chosen to keep it steady and build on our personalities. However, research has indicated that the time has come for some new blood and a fresh approach over weekends."

Since the announcement that Jill Stewart would be hanging up her headphones, many people have been asking what they could expect on Sunday mornings. According to Jay, "The Glory Days with Charl Leslie will feature classics from the golden era of music - but the best way to find out what it's all about will be to tune in and hear for yourself."

Aside from Jill Stewart's departure from the airwaves, Roy Williams will no longer present Sunday breakfast and Alfie Jay has recalled himself from the line-up.

New presenters

There are three new presenters on the line-up. Former OFM morning show host Pieter du Bois, who has been in the radio industry for more than a decade and recently relocated his family to Port Elizabeth, will be presenting Sunday Breakfast.

Former CBFM drive presenter Briony Sparg has just returned from a three-year spell overseas and will be presenting Sunday nights between 9pm and midnight. Ryan Naicker, a former Bay FM breakfast show co-host, will be presenting the party show on Saturday nights.

Selwyn Willis will present Saturday breakfast while Lance Du Plessis will remain in the hot seat for the Algoa FM Top 30. Zane Derbyshire takes over the airwaves between midday and 3pm and Charlton Tobias will present Saturday afternoons. Doreen Loubser will kick off Saturday evenings until 9pm, when Ryan Naicker takes over with a new Algoa Fm Party night.

On Sundays, Pieter du Bois will present breakfast and Charl Leslie will remind listeners of the glory days. Gordon Graham will broadcast "live" from East London for Sunday lunch and Buli G will bring in Sunday afternoons with the demo bag and a scan of global countdowns. Wayne Hart will present the Reflective SA Radio Chart until 9pm when Briony Sparg will do her best to keep Monday waiting.

The all-new weekend line up begins Saturday 18 November.
