AfriGIS responds to NPC's 9 challenges facing South Africa
The NPC is challenging the country as a collective to come up with innovative solutions to societal challenges which are known to us all. With its focus on answering the "Where is...?" question, spatial information or GIS (Geographic Information Systems) has the ability to play a major part in the solutions to these challenges.
The NPC video outlines the 9 challenges facing South Africa, AfriGIS responds to the nine challenges from a background of Spatial information, Geography and Telecommunication. As a citizen of this beautiful country, AfriGIS wants to illustrate how maps and applications can make a difference. We do this in the context of 15 years of experience gained from the placement of Voting Stations and building of Census Areas, through to providing the information that powers Navigation systems and International mapping platforms.
Our mission is to create geographic information and communication solutions, custom made for business and the consumer. Over the years we have developed a variety of processes and methodologies that allow the successful application of spatial information, which means maps or GIS and related technologies into big organisations.
We believe that AfriGIS's Spatial Information Strategy Framework is part of the plan to address the NPC's 9 challenges. In the spatial information strategy we deal with Business Obectives, Geographic Datasets, Functional Solutions and Best Practices. We go through a balancing act of reviewing best practice, looking at the Geographic and other datasets that enable specific questions related to the objectives and finally build the solutions that enable them.
Our challenges as a country are not new and we know the solutions are out there. A solution to the challenge on a national scale requires a coordinated effort. The key words leading us to success will be integration and cooperation.
